As of January 1, Thailand successfully achieved full nationwide coverage under the Universal Health Coverage program, “30 Baht Health Care Anywhere for All Thai People.” Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced the launch of the fourth and final phase of the initiative at a ceremony on December 25, 2024, attended by over 200 participants, including Cabinet members, government agencies, public networks, and private sector representatives.
With the launch of Phase 4, healthcare services are now available in the final 31 provinces of Thailand. This expansion builds on the previous coverage that began on January 7, 2024, in 46 provinces, including Bangkok. The completion of this phase ensures that 100% of Thai citizens now have personal Health IDs for streamlined medical services.
Launched 22 years ago and continually upgraded, the "30 Baht Health Care Anywhere" scheme has become a key driver in improving healthcare accessibility for all Thai citizens, reducing the burden of out-of-pocket medical expenses, and preventing financial strain caused by costly treatments and surgeries. According to Thai Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin, the program has been well-received, with over 6.5 million users and 15 million visits through 13,000 registered service units. A significant feature of the scheme's expansion is the adoption of digitalized medical services that allow patients to access healthcare anywhere using their national ID card, instead of being limited to designated hospitals for medical treatments and services. This enhanced digitalization also allows patients to book medical appointments through a mobile application and, where necessary, receive treatment remotely via telemedicine channels.
The Thai Government's priority healthcare developments in 2025 include nationwide establishments for elderly care, early screening programs with self-testing kits, mental health services, and rehabilitation programs.
