U.S. Department of Agriculture Leads Trade Mission to Bangkok

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) led a trade mission to Bangkok, Thailand, from February 3-6, aimed at expanding agricultural exports and strengthening trade partnerships in Southeast Asia. The delegation included nearly 40 agribusinesses, trade organizations, and representatives from five state departments of agriculture. In 2023, the United States exported $1.2 billion in agricultural products to Thailand, positioning itself as the country’s fifth-largest supplier. With the threat of U.S. tariffs, Thailand has also sought to increase imports from the United States to close its trade deficit, including feed and other agricultural commodities.
During the trade mission, U.S. agribusiness representatives participated in business-to-business meetings with importers from Thailand and Myanmar, took site visits, and received briefings from USDA officials and regional trade experts. The mission represents a milestone in U.S.-Thailand trade relations, reinforcing the longstanding partnership between the two nations—one of the United States' oldest alliances in the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, the initiative underscores the United States' commitment to expanding agricultural exports and fostering trade opportunities throughout Southeast Asia. With increased market access and strengthened trade relationships, U.S. agribusinesses have an opportunity to expand their footprint, enhance supply chain resilience, and drive investment in the region’s growing food and agriculture sectors.
