Philippines Avian Swine Flu Trials

The Philippines Department of Agriculture (DA) has issued enhanced guidelines for the use of vaccines against African Swine Fever (ASF) as a part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen biosecurity measures and curb outbreaks. The updated policy aims to accelerate the nationwide vaccination rollout while ensuring strict monitoring and safety protocols. A key aspect of the revised guidelines is easing participation requirements for farms joining the vaccination program. While compliance with biosecurity standards remains crucial, farms will now benefit from streamlined procedures, allowing for a faster and more efficient vaccination process. Additionally, updated protocols for the movement of vaccinated pigs now require health clearances and testing-based approvals. In cases where pigs test positive for ASF and exhibit clinical symptoms, depopulation measures remain mandatory to prevent the disease from spreading.
The Philippines is also ramping up ASF vaccine trials to assess long-term efficacy and improve disease management strategies. With ASF poses a persistent threat to the country’s hog industry, vaccination efforts are critical in stabilizing pork production, safeguarding food security, and supporting economic recovery in the agricultural sector.
