Bali International Hospital to Promote Indonesia’s Medical Tourism

Bali International Hospital, a new medical facility under construction in Sanur, is set to open in April 2025. The hospital, which has gone through over three years construction, will feature 250 rooms and state-of-the-art technology to provide advanced medical treatments, including oncology and neurology.
Strategically located in the heart of Sanur’s 41-hectare special economic zone, a project with approximately USD 1 billion in value, for medical tourism, the hospital aims to attract both international and domestic patients. It is also expected to help Indonesia recover an estimated USD 11.5 billion in annual revenue lost to wealthy citizens seeking medical treatments abroad.
With the passage of the Health Bill in November last year, which allows foreign medical specialists to practice in Indonesia, Bali International Hospital is set to be the first in the country to onboard foreign doctors and medical staff. This is a significant milestone, as 63% of patients prefer healthcare providers with international accreditation, according to the Medical Tourism Association. Additionally, the hospital will house Bali’s first mammogram facility, further enhancing its medical offerings.
One of the hospital’s unique features is its integration with the hospitality sector. Partnering with luxury establishments such as Bali Hotel and The Meru, it will offer all-inclusive packages that allow patients to stay in five-star accommodations while receiving treatment, blending high-end healthcare with premium hospitality.
According to GrandView Research, the Asia-Pacific medical tourism market is projected to reach USD 60.66 billion by 2030. With its push for international accreditation and a strategy to attract both foreign and domestic patients, Indonesia is positioning itself to capture a significant share of this growing market, potentially disrupting the regional dominance of medical tourism hubs like Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
