ASEAN Energy Landscape and Key Insights for 2025

The ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE) launched its outlook for 2025, which highlights five key insights. Firstly, COP29-backed commitments to low-carbon growth through financial mechanisms, low-emission technologies, and cross-border renewable trade are popular in dialogue, though uneven participation limits support. Additionally, market-based Instruments, such as carbon pricing and emissions trading are gaining traction but face regulatory and infrastructure hurdles. ASEAN national energy policies at large reveal ambitious renewable goals alongside continued fossil fuel reliance. Using a balanced approach, ASEAN’s progress on aspirational energy targets aim to supply a projected 12.2% increase in ASEAN energy demand in 2025.  

Strengthening public-private partnerships in energy financing, technology deployment, and policy advocacy will be crucial for accelerating regional progress. Businesses can play a key role by investing in infrastructure projects, supporting the development of carbon market
