Visitor arrivals in Singapore creep back to pre-pandemic levels as tourism sector rebounds
Singapore’s tourism industry signifies a positive rebound as COVID-19 subdues. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) made three noteworthy findings. First is the number of visitor arrivals. In 2022, 6.3 million internationals traveled to Singapore. With this number, Indonesia is the top visitor country (1.1 million), followed by India (686,000) and Malaysia (591,000). They primarily spent money on accommodation and shopping. However, pre-COVID-19, Singapore recorded the highest number of foreign travelers at 19.1 million in 2019. Secondly, visitors extended their stay in Singapore, noting that the average stay was about 4.81 days, rising from 3.36 days for the same period in 2019. Third, there was greater demand for business and leisure travel. Key tourism industries include the resumption of the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) Sector and the recovery of the cruise industry.
The STB forecasts that tourism activity will grow momentum to pre-pandemic levels by 2024. As a result, Singapore will continue expanding partnerships and planning year-round events to meet visitors’ demands.
