U.S. and Vietnam Strengthen Cybersecurity Collaboration
On November 14, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Vietnam’s Authority of Information Security (AIS) under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a framework for greater information sharing, joint training, and capacity-building initiatives. The signing of the MOU builds upon Vietnam’s initiatives to mitigate cyber threats and safeguard critical infrastructure as well as existing mechanisms with the U.S., including the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) Cyber Security Working Group and Counter Ransomware Initiative.
As Vietnam seeks to establish itself as a high-tech economy, the country has made significant progress in advancing its cyber maturity. Now ranked among the highest tier in the ITU’s Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 for cybersecurity commitments, Vietnam has experienced a 57 percent year-on-year decline in cyberattacks during the first 10 months of this year. Over the past month, Vietnam has witnessed strong interest and commitments in investments, underscored by high-level visits by leading U.S. technology companies.
