Government of Cambodia Steps Up Efforts to Revive Siem Reap Tourism
Cambodia is stepping up efforts to revive tourism in Siem Reap amid a sharp decline in international arrivals. International visitor arrivals fell 47.9% year-on-year to 1.8 million in the first half of 2026, while Angkor Pass revenue declined 29% year-on-year during the first seven months. In response, the Ministry of Tourism launched the 2026 Siem Reap Tourism Service Mega Sale in August, offering discounts of 10% to 50% on accommodation and tourism services as part of its green season campaign. Industry stakeholders have called for broader measures, including stronger international destination marketing and improved air connectivity, to support a more sustainable recovery.
Additionally, the Government of Cambodia is developing new tourism products and infrastructure to encourage longer visitor stays. Plans are underway to transform the former Siem Reap International Airport site into the “Miracle Angkor” tourism hub, featuring an international exhibition center, digital museum, and green tourism attractions. Authorities are also working to expand direct flights to Siem Reap from key markets including China, India, South Korea, the Middle East, and other ASEAN countries, while considering airport fee incentives for new routes. These efforts complement Cambodia’s broader push to strengthen its international tourism marketing and position the country as a higher-value destination.
