Deforestation Regulation in Malaysia and Indonesia

Malaysia and Indonesia, the world's top palm oil producers, have partnered with the European Union (EU) to address concerns regarding the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) through an ad hoc joint task force (JTF). The JTF, co-chaired by the three parties, held its inaugural meeting in Jakarta on August 5, where they agreed on the terms of reference for their work, covering issues like traceability, deforestation data, and data protection. Previously, Indonesia and Malaysia, responsible for 85% of global palm oil exports, have criticized the EU Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR) as discriminatory and overly stringent, especially for small farmers. The next meeting is scheduled for the end of November.
