This is a good opportunity as it is the first time in more than a decade that the government is actively promoting new blocks to operators beyond those already established in the country. Following a visit from Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah to China, there has also been interest from China-based firms to develop these blocks.

The offshore acreages are offered as part of the Brunei Offshore Licensing Round. This licensing round offers a unique opportunity to explore and develop promising hydrocarbon blocks located in offshore areas of Brunei Darussalam. The two offshore acreages are:

Potential bidders are required to register their interest via a QR code on the government’s website, with the host administration stipulating that investors must have a partner with industry experience to act as operator. Additional details can be found here. The deadline for the EOI submission is 30 April.
