Brunei Opens Opportunities for Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration

The Brunei government has requested an expression of interest (EOI) for oil and gas companies to explore and develop two offshore blocks. This is a good opportunity as it is the first time in more than a decade that the government is actively promoting new blocks to operators beyond those already established in the country. Following a visit from Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah to China, there has also been interest from China-based firms to develop these blocks.
The offshore acreages are offered as part of the Brunei Offshore Licensing Round. This licensing round offers a unique opportunity to explore and develop promising hydrocarbon blocks located in offshore areas of Brunei Darussalam. The two offshore acreages are:

Potential bidders are required to register their interest via a QR code on the government’s website, with the host administration stipulating that investors must have a partner with industry experience to act as operator.
