Singapore, U.S. to Study Feasibility of Regional Power Grid
On April 3, the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore, and the United States Department of Energy agreed to conduct a joint Feasibility Study on Regional Energy Connectivity. The first phase of the study will include reviews of current and potential power interconnections in ASEAN and the socio-economic benefits of regional energy connectivity. The feasibility study seeks to facilitate the development of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiative and support regional efforts to decarbonize and deploy renewable energy. Singapore and the U.S. expect to share the initial findings of the first phase by October 2023. The second phase will cover legal and governance frameworks and financing arrangements needed to facilitate regional energy connectivity. Singapore and the U.S. also welcomed the participation of partners from the Net Zero World Initiative as well as the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF).
