Singapore Ramps Up Defense Modernization and Strategic Partnerships

Singapore is accelerating its military modernization through substantial budget increases, advanced hardware procurement, expanded defense cooperation agreements, joint exercises, and prominent defense technology summits. A 12% defense budget increase for 2025 is intended to quickly address disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic, defense cooperation was established with Switzerland, and new submarines are being acquired from Germany, who is also conducting joint exercises. Additionally, hosting the annual Defense Technology Summit highlights Singapore’s proactive stance on defense innovation, positioning itself prominently in discussions of cutting-edge military technologies.
