Singapore Airshow
February 15, 2024

Singapore Airshow 2024, an biennial air and defense exhibition, will take place from February 20 to February 25 at the Changi Exhibition Centre. The event serves as a trading, networking, collaborative innovations and ideas exchange platform for government officials, defense contractors, military delegations and aerospace corporations.

This year, over 1,000 companies from more than 50 countries/regions are expected to take part, signifying a substantial increase from the previous event in 2022 which saw around 600 participants. The returning participants this year include Airbus, AVIC, Boeing, Bombardier, COMAC, Dassault Aviation, GE Aerospace, Honeywell, L3Harris, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, RTX, Rolls-Royce, Safran, ST Engineering, Textron Aviation and Thales. The full exhibitor listing can be found here. Executives from high-profile commercial and defense firms, such as Boeing, Embraer, Bird Aerosystems and Israel Aerospace Industries are also expected to attend the exhibition. This year's event will also witness the debut of country pavilions from China, Czech Republic, and Korea alongside other countries such as Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The show will feature aerial displays by five foreign air forces, marking the largest number of foreign aerobatic teams since the event's inception in 2008. One noteworthy development is the planned aerial display of Chinese manufacturer Comac’s C919, a new-generation single-aisle jet powered by Leap-1C turbofan engine. C919 will be part of a commercial flight aerial display with its counterpart Airbus’s A350-1000. This marks the first presence of C919 in international exhibition and the aircraft is set to competewith industry dominant players, Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. Airbus, which secured 97 percent of total commercial aircraft orders at the 2022 show, remains a formidable competitor in the market.

The host, Singapore will also take part in the flying display with its regular aerobatic pair of a F-15SG fighter jet and the AH-64D Apache multi-role attack helicopter. The United States Air Force (USAF) will participate in aerial display with its B-52 Stratofortress which entered service in 1961, and is expected to remain in the service for at least another three decades. However, the absence of the USAF's F-35 family from aerial performances this year is notable (F-35B Lightning II and F-35A took part in 2020 and 2022 flying displays, respectively), with the F-35A relegated to static display.

Static displays at the Singapore Airshow 2024 will showcase a range of military aircraft, including Chinese ARJ21 and Changhe Z-10 helicopters, marking the first-ever static display of Chinese military aircraft at an international airshow. On the defense aircraft side, Boeing announced that its F-15, P-8A Poseidon, AH-64E Apache, CH-47F Chinook and C-17 Globemaster III will be on static-display. Full list of static displays can be found here.

The event could also open up opportunities for aerospace corporations with countries like Vietnam reportedly seeking options for potential replacement of its aging Su-22 fleet and the Philippines is advancing its third phase of military modernization plan, which includes the procurement of fighter jets. With Covid restrictions gradually easing and air travel resuming, this year's Singapore Airshow is likely to witness a surge in aircraft orders.
