Malaysia’s Sarawak State Continues the Hydrogen Race
In an ongoing effort to establish Sarawak as a global hub for green hydrogen energy, Malaysialaunched the first Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen (APGH) Conference & Exhibition on June 10 in Sarawak. APGH 2024 had two missions: firstly, to provide a platform for stakeholders to share information and seek collaboration on hydrogen projects; secondly, to demonstrate Sarawak’s energycommitments and potentials on a global stage. The event succeeded in both, holding over 100 exhibitors and attracting businesses from all over the world. The next APGH is expected to take place in June 2026.
At the event, the Premier of Sarawak Abang Johari Openg introduced Sarawak H2 Hub, a jointlydeveloped hydrogen production hub by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation Energy (SEDCE) and Gentari Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian national clean energy developer. The Hub will adopt aninnovative modular approach, through which it will standardize hydrogen production units from all production projects in Bintulu before supplying them to downstream facilities. This will streamline and ease the process of integrating hydrogen into the energy mix and allow more investors to participate. Two production projects invested and built by Japanese and Korean businesses are already set to be a part of the new Hub. It presents opportunities for U.S. businesses to invest in hydrogen derivatives facilities in Bintulu, Sarawak.
