The 2023 World Bank Logistics Performance Index (LPI), ranked Malaysia 26th globally, making it the second-highest performing ASEAN country after Singapore, which was ranked 1st. The LPI assesses the trade logistics of 139 countries to measure the ease of establishing reliable supply chain connections as well as key structural factors for logistics, including infrastructure and border controls. Malaysia has ranked among the top 11 upper-middle-income countries since 2012.

Under the National Transport Policy (2019-2030), the Ministry of Transport seeks to improve Malaysia’s logistical connectivity, enhance productivity, and increase competitiveness to support the country’s ambitions of becoming a high-income nation by 2025. Key metrics of success identified in the policy include improvements in Malaysia’s ease of doing business rating as well as improvements in global rankings, including the World Bank LPI. Malaysia’s ranking in the 2023 World LPI is the second-highest ranking Malaysia has ever achieved, only achieving one rank higher in 2014. Malaysia’s position has increased by 15 rankings compared to the last World Bank LPI published in 2018.
