Malaysia to Launch New Sustainability Reporting Platform
Bursa Malaysia and the London Stock Exchange (LSE) Group will launch a centralized sustainability reporting platform in April. The platform will enable public limited companies (PLCs) and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to calculate their carbon emissions impact and disclose ESG data in a manner that conforms with established global standards. In November 2022, Bursa Malaysia and LSE Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand ESG collaboration. ESG scores had only been available for PLCs that are part of the FTSE Bursa Malaysia EMAS Index, accounting for approximately 30 percent of Malaysian PLCs. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim touted the platform as a potential key enabler in Malaysia’s green transition. PM Anwar also highlighted ongoing consultations and engagements between the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and local and international stakeholders to develop a national ESG framework for the manufacturing sector by 2024.
