The expanding influence of China and Russia in Southeast Asia’s defense sector is evolving Southeast Asia’s security landscape. Recent first-time engagements, such as Indonesia’s joint naval exercises with Russia and China’s participation in Vietnam’s defense expo, underscore Southeast Asia’s emergence as a key focal point for global strategic maneuvering. As these regional states diversify their military partnerships and recalibrate their security alignments, the evolving dynamics create both new opportunities and significant challenges for maintaining regional stability.
