Cambodia Pentagonal Strategy Highlights Importance of the Digital Economy
On August 24, the Government of Cambodia launched the first phase of the Pentagonal Strategy, the new government’s socio-economic policy agenda that will be implemented over the next 25 years to enable Cambodia to become a high-income country by 2050. Technology and the digital economy are highlighted as one of the plan’s five core priorities to support greater economic growth, job creation, equity, efficiency, and sustainability.
The digital economy and society pillar of the Pentagonal Strategy highlights strategic objectives to further develop Cambodia’s digital government, economy, infrastructure, and systems. The plan includes commitments to develop common technical standards and regulatory frameworks related to cloud infrastructure, digital public service provision, digital security, financial technology, and the digital economy more broadly to bolster Cambodia’s digital transformation. The government also plans to establish a Digital Security Committee and National Center for Digital Security to encourage greater investment in digital security infrastructure and systems.
The Pentagonal Strategy will be implemented in five successive phases. Along with the new government’s Political Platform, the first phase of the Pentagonal Strategy will serve as a policy framework during the formulation of Cambodia’s National Strategic Development Plan (2024-2028), sectoral development plans, and other related plans.
